The beginning of the end of shoe production in Zlín The transformation of the shoe manufacturer SVIT Gottwaldov in the period 1989-1991
Grác, David ; Krátká, Lenka (advisor) ; Wohlmuth Markupová, Jana (referee)
In my diploma thesis, I examine the contemporary history of the transformation of the socialist economy after November 1989, applying the oral-historical method. As an example of such a transformation, I am using the traditional shoe producer Svit Gottwaldov. The thesis focuses on a specific time frame that began with the Velvet Revolution in 1989 and ended on 26. 11. 1991, when the state enterprise Svit - the former direct successor of the Bata company - halted production, put one-quarter of its employees on forced leave, fell into secondary insolvency, terminated the negotiations on the entry of the Bata company, and essentially collapsed. In the first part of the work, the methodology on which the text is based is laid out. The basis is oral history interviews, which are supplemented by archival sources. The second, empirical part, describes the events of that time in the form of a story. The plot of our story begins with a description of the state of affairs before November 1989, the subsequent revolutionary events, the return of Tomáš Bata junior, his negotiations to take over Svit. The story ends with the management's not very successful attempt at transformation and privatization.

The thesis deals with privatisations of housing stock in the new federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1990 to 2008. Aim of this thesis is to outline the development of privatisation processes and to assess their impact on the development of the housing stock. The thesis first outlines the political context of German reunification and the initial condition of the housing stock in the new Länder. First part of the thesis is dedicated to the "first wave" of privatisations, which were part of the transformation of the housing stock of new Länder into a market economy. This section outlines the legal framework of the privatisations and their course in the 1990s. Following section of this part elaborates on restitutions, which were part of the transformation-process as a specific form of privatisation of housing. The first part concludes with an assessment of the impact of privatisations on the development of the housing stock in the 1990s. The second part focuses on the "second wave" of privatisations of the municipal housing stock, which began at the turn of the millennium. The primary motivation of these privatisations was no longer the transformation of the housing market, but rather efforts to stabilise the budgetary situation of towns and municipalities. These privatisations took...

Říčka, Tomáš ; Pithart, Petr (advisor) ; Bažantová, Ilona (referee) ; Ježek, Tomáš (referee)
Tomas Ricka Stránka 1 Title: The influence of public policy on legal order of Czech Republic during transition Abstract: The thesis deals with public policy, its key components and influences on the institutional environment. The major aim of the thesis was to analyze, what was the influence of public (economic) policy in transition on the creation of rules in the Czech Republic. Who created the policy? How was the policy conducted? What was the role of the rules? What was the international context in that era? What was the influence of these external factors on the development in the Czech Republic. Other goals of the thesis dealt with the following: availability of suitable tools to analyze transition; key assumptions of public policy; rule making; the role of rule makers. The thesis does not attempt to describe all relevant approaches from modern economic theory that would be useful to analyze the transition processes. The thesis uses a selection of tools that can help to analyze institutions and rules in society from another view, than does standard legal theory or political science. Use of tools of economic analysis (especially from the area of microeconomics and new approaches of economics) can be characterized as complementary for institutional analysis. Transition and privatization of state property...

Vurbs, Jan ; Jireš, Jan (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
V Praze, dne 25. července 2013 ………………………………… Abstract The main focus of this thesis is the phenomenon of private military companies and their deployment in situations of armed conflict conducted under the auspices of the so-called "War on Terrorism". The aim is to provide the reader with an introductory insight into this issue, describe specific activities of private military companies during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, and to answer research questions about their positive or negative contribution to the overall results of these conflicts and the possible impact on civil-military relations. The main thesis of this work is that the performance of these companies can not be categorically evaluated because it is different from case to case. There are, however, some general trends which can be traced in regard to "War on Terrorism". They mainly relate to the lack of efficient state control of private military companies and their conduct. The work is divided into several parts. The first deals with the historical development of conducting military operations with the help of non-state financially motivated actors. This section is intended to create a framework for a better understanding of the issues examined. The second part is devoted to theoretical classification of private military companies and...
Violence and the Political
Svorník, Petr ; Slačálek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bíba, Jan (referee)
The main subject of this paper is the course of state and violence under the impact of processes of globalization and privatization, culminating in the beginning of 21st century. Max Weber's definition of state as the monopoly on legitimate violence within certain area is highlighted, the aim of this work is to show current unsustainability of a nation state by this definition and also to describe other possible meanings of state in globalized world. After the theoretical introduction characterization of historical process of monopolization of violence by the state follows - contemporary course looks like the exact opposite of historical process, during which the state expropriated all of the other possessors of rights to use physical force. Next chapter depicts the present-day role of the state in globalized world and also possible re-interpretaions of this role for new, cosmpolitan state, whose task should be worldwide promotion of human rights and defence against planetary self-destruction. The paper is closed by emphasis on openness of the whole process - transnational companies try to promote an opinion that there is no chance of state's survival - that is true, but only for the state defined in national, not cosmopolitan terms.
